Meet Lisa

Lisa Pearson

BSc (Physiotherapy), MSC (Sports Science), FCAMT, CAFCI, CGIMS, PYT (C)

Lisa has been a physiotherapist for over 25 years and has been lucky enough to practice in Canmore for most of that time. She grew up in Scotland where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Physiotherapy and her Masters Degree in Sports Science. Since graduation she has pursued extensive education and holds internationally recognised professional qualifications in Manual/Manipulative Therapy and Needling Techniques (Anatomical Acupuncture and Intramuscular Stimulation – IMS). More recently she has joined the small but growing group of physios who are incorporating yoga into their treatments. She is currently studying Pain Care Yoga and Medical Therapeutic Yoga (MTY) and plans to complete these certifications in 2016. You can read more in our Resources and Links section.

Lisa thoroughly enjoys treating all of the aches, pains and injuries of people in our active mountain town and she particularly loves the challenge of helping people with complex, 'hard to figure out' problems. She always does her best to ‘get you better’ as quickly as possible. The longer Lisa has worked the more she has become interested in the ‘bigger picture’ associated with injuries, illness and chronic pain – mental/emotional concerns, sleeping problems, breathing dysfunction, nutrition/gastrointestinal factors, etc. This is the reason she decided to pursue training in medical therapeutic yoga.

Lisa has always loved sports, starting off as competitive swimmer. When she moved to Canmore she decided that it was important to play outside in nature. She loves to bike, run, swim, hike, cross country ski and telemark.  She has competed in triathlons for over 25 years. She is an Ironman Canada finisher (2001) and an Xterra (off road) Triathlon World Championship finisher (2010/2012). More recently (2015) she completed the BC Bike Race, a seven day mountain bike stage race.

Lisa started her personal yoga practice in her early twenties to help counteract all the imbalances created by her sports. Her goal back then was simply to ‘stretch her muscles’. Over time she realized just how much yoga can help with strength, stability, breathing and correcting poor movement patterns. Yoga has also been important in helping Lisa manage some of her own medical problems. Her practice continues to evolve and she now recognizes and enjoys the calming and rejuvenating effects on her mind and body.  She is excited to bring these benefits to her physiotherapy clients by incorporating yoga principles and poses into her treatments and classes.

Lisa loves to travel and has volunteered her physio skills in Africa. She has two active kids who she can still just about keep up with on her bike and skis!
